Gerhana matahari cincin akan terjadi pada Jumat 15 Januari 2010, khususnya di Afrika, India, dan China. Gerhana matahari cincin terjadi saat Bulan berada jauh dari bumi sehingga piringannya terlihat kecil dan tidak dapat menutupi seluruh piringan matahari.
Piringan matahari yang tertutup oleh piringan Bulan hanya bagian tengahnya saja, sekitar 92 persen, sehingga bagian pinggir matahari tidak tertutup. Oleh karena itu piringan matahari akan terlihat dari muka bumi seperti lingkaran cincin yang bercahaya.
Gerhana yang akan terjadi berdurasi 11 menit 8 detik. Menurut ilmuwan NASA, ini durasi yang sangat lama, terlama sepanjang milenium. Durasi ini tak akan terulang lagi hingga 3043!
